CGW4U- Canadian and World Issues

Description

This course draws on geographic concepts, skills and methods and technologies to analyze significant issues facing Canadians as citizens of an interdependent world.  Students will examine the challenges of creating a sustainable and equitable future through the study of a range of topics, including economic interdependence, geopolitical conflict, regional disparities in the ability to meet basic human needs, and protection of the planets life-support systems

Class Requirements:

The textbook for this course is Global Connections: Canadian and World Issues, 2nd Ed., 2009.  Students will using this book occasionally, and should bring it with them to each class.

Students should also have a notebook and pen, or their laptop with them at each class.

Photocopied material and videos will supplement the textbook in order to enrich certain topics or to explore other issues pertaining to the course.


Course Requirements/School Policies


Late Assignments

It is the expectation that all assignments be completed and submitted on time. The penalty for late assignments is 5%/day to a maximum of 20%.  If an assignment is handed in after it has been taken up/handed back, at the teacher’s discretion, the student may not receive a mark for it. All lesson topics, assignments, handouts, etc. are available on the SSD.

Missed Tests

It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements, ahead of time, for any tests/quizzes that are missed. If a student misses a test/quiz for an unforeseen reason such as illness, a grade of 0 is initially assigned and the student must bring a note to the Senior School office signed by a parent or guardian and be prepared to write the test/quiz immediately upon return to school at a time determined by the teacher
